2018 Will Mark the 30th Anniversary of the Original ‘Child’s Play’
Some toys we never get too old for.
This week, the Child’s Play franchise dropped the teaser for installment number 7, aptly titled, Cult of Chucky. The voodoo powered doll from hell is back and just in time to celebrate the last years of his twenties. That’s right, it might not seem like it but the film that started it all, Child’s Play, was released way back in 1988 when acid washed jeans weren’t just something people wore at themed parties.
Entertainment Weekly dropped the exclusive teaser on us, which celebrates the last 30 years of Chucky while simultaneously harkening his long-awaited return. Brad Dourif returns as the voice of the dastardly doll, while his daughter, Fiona, plays the lead character, Nica Pierce.
EW was nice enough to share a bit of the plot with us as well:
“Cult of Chucky will catch up with the younger Dourif’s character at an asylum for the criminally insane where she has been confined for the past four years and is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when Nica’s psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all.”
The film is scheduled to release in the fall of 2017 on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
