This week, the guys are locking themselves up and throwing away the key as they review the 1972 Japanese prison movie, Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion. In this episode, the guys discuss the “women in prison” genre of films and how this particular movie sets itself apart from others in the same category. Later, Kyle gives some background on a particular era of Japanese filmmaking, where studios were throwing money at new, younger voices – provided there was plenty of nudity. Also, Mike wonders if other countries get as confused about films with a heavy dose of American culture as he does about foreign films he’s seen in the past. Finally, the crew talks about some of the creative choices this film uses and which scenes boast the best camerawork.
