The 1977 Dario Argento Horror Will Be Distributed by Amazon Studios
Variety is reporting that Chloe Grace Moretz will be joining Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swindon in the remake of Dario Argento’s classic horror film Suspiria. The film will be directed by Luca Guadagnino.
Amazon Studios will be funding the project as well as owning all worldwide distributing rights. No word as to whether this means the film will solely appear on the company’s streaming service, but with Netflix recent foray into striking exclusive deals with the likes of Adam Sandler, it’s not out of the question.
Guadagnino is probably best known for his last film, A Bigger Splash which also starred Johnson and Swindon. A Bigger Splash’s screenwriter, David Kajganich, is commissioned to write the script.
Suspiria opened in 1977 and tells the tale of an up and coming ballet dancer who is admitted to a distinguished dance school to study. While there she a series of murders unfold. She soon learns that the school houses a number of secrets possibly of a supernatural nature and eventually digs deeper to get to the bottom of it all.
The project has been in the works for some time, with Guadagnino at the forefront of the re-imagining of the Argento classic.
Last month it was rumored that Moretz would be retiring from acting to focus on producing. It’s a good thing those rumors were misinterpreted. Under the right direction, a Suspiria remake could prove to be a promising update to the Argento masterpiece.
